Throttle body spacers tend to draw quite a bit of controversy. The "Will They Work??? Or Won't They" debate continues although numerous studies have shown that throttle body spacers have given significant gains in performance, horsepower, torque and fuel economy especially on vehicles using Throttle Body Injection or the standard four-barrel carburetor. The throttle body spacer adds velocity by effectively improving the vacuum response to the TBI or carburetor. The throttle body spacer, effectively increases the runner length of the intake manifold while at the same time increasing the overall plenum volume. This, in turn, also acts to prevent any of the air-fuel mixture from hitting the bottom of the intake manifold and bouncing back up to scatter in the intake manifold increasing overall performance and throttle response.

Most throttle body spacers are designed to do two things speed up the velocity of air into your engine and create an airflow vortex which increases atomization. This is why most quality throttle body spacers are designed with a helix design or spiral flow design. This spiral flow design yields increased combustion and additional horsepower at any RPM. There are cheaper home made spacers available without a helix design or spiral flow design, but we reccomend staying away from these spacers and sticking with throttle body spacers which are manufactured by reputable companies. Companies that stand behind their products and have years of experience and knowledge in dealing with aftermarket performance parts.

Throttle body spacers can provide you with up to an additional 25 ft. lbs. of torque. To put it simply, velocity in the combustion chamber makes additional torque. This is the speed at which the air and fuel mixture enters and exits the engine. Increase the speed and you will increase the engine's torque output. Throttle body spacers provide additional height for the air and fuel mixture to have a more gradual flow into the intake ports of the manifold, and can thus produce increased torque response.
